To: Contemporary Worship Team Members
Subject:  2010 Worship Team Jam
When: January 23, 2010   9:30AM to 2:30PM (registration at 9:00AM)

Place:  Strongsville United Methodist Church 13500 Royalton Road,  Strongsville, OH 44136

Why the Jam?

Maybe your drummer went on vacation last July and left you percussion-less?  How do you keep your team energized?  Or maybe you feel God calling you to do something different at your church but don’t know how to start?  Planning and leading a contemporary worship service, especially as part of a church that is primarily “traditional”, presents special opportunities and challenges.   Would you like to have friends to discuss ideas with, or turn to with problems?

Who should attend?

The Worship Team Jam is a grass roots effort of people just like you from Northeast Ohio who are interested in contemporary worship at their church.  We will all learn from each other, exchange ideas via roundtable discussions and presentations on music, arts, technology, planning, and other topics.  There are no expert outside consultants here!  Just people like you, with a range of experiences and backgrounds.

Contact the North Coast District Office for more Info.  There is a registration form & fee.

From Broadway UMC:

Would you be interested in volunteer opportunities but you do not want the feeling of being "committed for life" to one particular project? Well, Cleveland: Broadway UMC has three short-term volunteer opportunities for you. A) Volunteer during the tax season (February-April) and provide free tax service to low-moderate income families. Help them apply for earned income and child care credits. This is a software/menu driven program. SET YOUR OWN SCHEDULE. Training is provided. B) Volunteer one week of the month eight (8) hours as "Pantry Day" coordinator. Volunteers are asked to commit to three (3) consecutive months.  Orientation is provided for volunteers. C) Volunteer eight (8) hours a month with the Safe Haven program. You will give academic support to CMSD students assigned to this off-site school suspension program. Your role is to help students complete homework packets provided by their home school. You decide which day of the week to volunteer. Safe Haven operates on the CMSD school calendar.

If any of these volunteer opportunities sound interesting to you, please contact Rev. Yvonne Conner at rev.y.conner@sbcglobal.net or call 216 271 3650 x101.

Small-membership and rural congregations are facing unique challenges due to population shifts and economic changes. Dr. Anthony Pappas (author of Entering the World of the Small Church) and Dr. Robin Knowles Wallace (MTSO faculty and author of Worshiping in the Small Membership Church) will offer seminars around the theme of “Missional Renewal of the Small-Membership Church.” For more information, please visit http://www.mtso.edu/Events/MEI.htm or contact Dr. Joon-Sik Park at jpark@mtso.edu or 740-362-3367.

Upward Basketball is coming to Church of the Saviour

The Mission of the Upward program is "to introduce children to Jesus Christ by creating opportunities to serve through sports." Core beliefs of the Upward program are that: "God is at work all around us; How we live is more important that what we say; Serving should exceed expectations; and that, Every Child is a Winner."

Upward Basketball introduces and enhances basic basketball fundamentals and teaches the value of both teamwork and sportsmanship as players learn the game and have fun. Upward Basketball is coming to Church of the Saviour for all boys and girls, grades K5 through 6th. Practices and games will begin in January 2010, culminating in a league celebration in March 2010.

For more information, please contact League Director, Lauren Lanphear at llanphear@ forestcitytree.com or (216) 470-9707.
